So common yet never really spoken about, why is it that your libido suddenly disappeared and what can you do about it.
First of all there not just one reason but there is one common reason for low or no libido which we will explore first.
Perimenopause and menopause
Biologically, our sex drive is active because our bodies want to make babies — whether we choose to or not. That’s a biological fact in all animal species, including humans. This is why our drive is usually higher when we're ovulating.
Of course, during menopause, the baby-making factory is closed for business. So now, the drive has to come from pleasure and connection with your partner. The good news is, plenty of women enjoy sex for pleasure well into their 70s.
There are many options available to increase libido.
Pain and discomfort
If you're experiencing pain and discomfort every time you have sex, then of course you're not going to be keen.
Dryness
Lubrication is key — make sure to use natural options so you don’t disrupt your vaginal microbiome, which can lead to thrush and other issues.
Sea Buckthorn – Taken internally, it helps lubricate mucous membranes, including vaginal tissue.
Homeopathy – A common remedy is Nat mur, but a full constitutional consultation is best for lasting support and making sure remedy suites you.
Pain
Emotional – Work on any underlying trauma. Consider whether this issue only began with your current partner. Is there emotional rejection happening?
Infection – Thrush, STIs, UTIs can all cause discomfort and affect libido.
Lichen sclerosus – This condition can be supported naturally
Postpartum – If you’ve recently given birth, give yourself time and support.
Deep Penetration – He may simply be too large, or the angle may need adjusting.
Stress and connection
This is a big one — and incredibly common. We’re all so busy that meaningful connection often falls by the wayside. It’s important to connect with your partner outside the bedroom. Keep romance alive, even with kids in the picture.
Most divorces happen when children are young (due to lack of time for each other) or after children leave home (because couples forget how to spend time together).
Relationship issue / Love has gone
This may be one of the biggest reasons for loss of desire later in life. When the hormones fade, you may realize the intimacy and emotional connection isn’t there anymore. Maybe you’ve been too busy raising children or focusing on your career. Maybe your partner just irritates you now — and that’s certainly not going to make you want to jump into bed.
Medication
Certain medications, such as SSRIs, can reduce your sex drive. Talk to your doctor if you suspect this might be affecting you. Maca my help here studies suggest it help sex drive when reduced due to anti depressants.
Mental health
If you're dealing with depression or you're stuck in "fight or flight" mode, your body isn’t going to want to let its guard down. Libido naturally suffers when we’re in survival mode.
The first step is figuring out where you are right now. What’s stopping you from having sex for pleasure? Awareness is always key. Once you know, you can seek the right kind of help.
What You Can Do
Stress Management – Yoga, meditation, and breathwork can help regulate your nervous system.
Exercise – Especially strength training and aerobic activity. These boost mood, energy, and circulation — all important for libido.
Sleep – Prioritize a consistent routine and good quality sleep.
Maca Root – May help improve libido in women, especially those with antidepressant-related sexual side effects.
How I Can Help
Homeopathy – Working constitutionally to treat the whole person. There’s even a remedy combo specifically for menopause-related libido loss.
Trauma Release – Cranial and somatic therapies can help release stored trauma in the body.
Breathwork Sessions – To reconnect with your body and release tension.
Herbal and Supplement Support – For stress, infections, and vaginal dryness.
Other Considerations
Sex or intimacy counsellor
Relationship counselling
Consider: is this the right relationship for you?
Intimacy essence
Yoni massage
HRT – Bioidentical hormones – I’ve listed this, but I’m not a fan unless you’re really struggling with menopausal symptoms. Remember: we are meant to go through menopause — it’s natural. Messing with that process may cause other issues.
